Scottsdale, AZ -- Western New Mexico University's softball program kicked off the season Thursday in pool play of the Division II Lead Off Classic in Scottsdale. The Mustangs won their opener against Cal State San Bernardino 3-2 and fell in an afternoon game 5-3 to UC San Diego.
Senior Tiffany DeVaurs started off the season with a bang, hitting three homeruns for the day while teammate Meredith Drahota (Jr., Phoenix, AZ) got three hits scored three runs off three stolen bases. Pitcher Molly Yetman (Sr., Cambridge, ON) got her first win of the season on the mound and freshman Pricilla Garcia (Albuquerque, NM) got the loss against UCSD.
The Mustangs face Regis Friday morning before heading to bracket play in the afternoon.
